K-Pop, K-Drama, K-Food... In recent years, we have seen the rise of the K trend spreading worldwide, and its popularity is steadily increasing every year. Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is the city at the center of this popular trend. More and more people are coming to Seoul to engage with Korea, and it serves as more than just a nation's main city - it is where a worldwide cultural phenomenon known as K originates, and a global metropolis with immense growth possibilities! If you want to witness this phenomenon alongside people from all over the world, we suggest visiting the Seoul Museum of History.
Established in 2002 on the site of Gyeonghuigung Palace, the Seoul Museum of History is an open museum that organizes the history and culture of Seoul from prehistory to modern times. Both local and international visitors have praised the museum's innovative design focused on an open courtyard and experience-based approach, a departure from the traditional exhibit hall-centered layout. Furthermore, the museum offers a variety of facilities that make it a “museum for everyone,” including a barrier-free access ramp and entrance for wheelchair users, accessible parking and restrooms, Braille blocks, and text-to-speech devices for the visually impaired, and family-friendly restrooms for families. After exploring the museum, you can relax at Coffee Bean Morning at Gyeonghuigung Palace, which has a spacious interior, and Patisserie 84 Percent, a famous French madeleine cafe. Let's journey back in time by visiting the Seoul Museum of History, an open museum that exhibits Seoul's history, present, and future, as well as cafes nearby!
The Seoul Museum of History showcases the city's rich history and cultural traditions to deepen visitors' knowledge of historic Seoul and foster an appreciation for history. The museum has one underground floor and three above-ground floors, divided into five zones: Zone 1: Joseon Dynasty Seoul, Zone 2: Open Port and Seoul during the Korean Empire Period, Zone 3: Seoul during the Japanese colonial period, Zone 4: The rapid growth period of Seoul, and Zone 5: City Model Movie Theater. The outdoor exhibits include the foundation stone of the Belfry, the members of the Japanese Government-General of Korea, and the concrete members of Gwanghwamun Gate. The Touch Museum Corner, a popular spot for visitors, allows people to interact with replica artifacts and watch videos providing information about them.
The Seoul Museum of History has a spacious accessible way without steps or inclines, and the main entrance features Braille blocks for the visually impaired, ensuring accessibility for all, including wheelchair users. (Top left) At the entrance, there is an information desk that may be too high for wheelchair users, along with text-to-speech devices for those who are hearing impaired, as well as rental services for wheelchairs and baby strollers. (bottom left) There is an elevator with voice guidance available, but the interior is a bit narrow, which could pose difficulties for wheelchair users (bottom right). There is accessible parking and accessible restrooms with the name Family Friendly Restrooms. These accessible restrooms are located on each floor, but they are not separated by gender, which may be inconvenient. Diaper changing tables are located in the family-friendly restrooms, and nursing rooms are designated as baby shelters.
