Basic Information

Overview

The Seoul Urban Life Museum, built on the site of the former Northern Legal Complex in Nowon-gu, exhibits daily life history of Seoul citizens after liberation. The permanent exhibition halls display photos and videos of the city landscape, showing the daily life of Seoul citizens and the transformation of the city from ruins after the Korean war to a developed city and global tourist destination.


Attractions

The main exhibits on the first floor are Brisa and Pony, popular car models in 1970s produced by Korean companies. For younger generations, these two cars are knowns through the movie <Taxi Driver> based on the May 18th Gwangju Democratization Movement. Early cell phones called Pippi (beepers) and bricks, drinks and old images of ramyeon are also on display. On the second and third floors, visitors can see the daily necessities and living sites of Seoul citizens right after the Korean War. The Detention Exhibition Hall in the annex has restored the appearance of the detention site in the past. The spaces for children, The Children's Experience Room and Ompang Playground, operated through pre-booking, are spaces to experience plays through the sensory and five senses.


Accessibility 

The entryway and main entrance are wide and flat with no steps or raised spots. There is a Korean braille information board and information desk near the entrance where wheelchairs and strollers can be rented. The interior space of the elevator is spacious and buttons for wheelchair users are installed. The female and male accessible restrooms are in the public restroom. There is a nursing room across from the 1st-floor bathroom. There is a diaper changing station in the nursing room and the accessible restroom. There are parking facilities for persons with disabilities that are easy to access.
